Dr. Maduka Okoro Urges Professionalism In News Reporting At The Fund Raising Launching Of The Guru Journalism Training Academy
Keynote speaker Mr. Maduka Okoro highlighted the growing challenge posed by untrained media practitioners, cautioning that technology has enabled the proliferation of unreliable reporting. He urged stakeholders to support the Academy as a solution to restore credibility and objectivity in Nigerian journalism, ensuring that accurate information reaches the public.He dived into all aspects of the program and highlighted it's significance and importance in our everyday life.
In Accordance,Chief Elder Sam Obinna Ibe, veteran journalist and publisher of The News Makers, said the Academy represents a lifelong commitment to mentoring and training journalists, media practitioners, and social media users in ethics, media law, and professional reporting standards. “Professional training and mentorship are crucial to ensuring accurate, balanced, and responsible journalism,” he said.
Elaborating on his vision, Ibe said the Academy would not only provide technical training but also instil a deep sense of ethics, responsibility, and societal accountability. “We aim to take journalism back to its golden era, where accuracy, objectivity, and discipline defined the profession. Beyond the classroom, we plan to engage secondary schools and tertiary institutions to expose students to the essence of journalism, ensuring that future media practitioners understand the critical role they play in shaping public opinion and safeguarding democracy,” he added.
