Dele Farotimi Warns Nigerians Against Becoming Undocumented Immigrants in the U.S. Under Trump
Nigerian lawyer and human rights advocate Dele Farotimi has issued a strong caution to Nigerians and other global citizens against becoming undocumented immigrants, particularly in the United States under the administration of President Donald Trump.
In a statement posted on his official X account (formerly Twitter) on Friday, July 18, 2025, Farotimi highlighted the risks and inhumane treatment that often accompany such status.
"Whatever you do or do not do, please do not allow yourself to become an undocumented immigrant anywhere in the world," he warned.
Farotimi further emphasized the heightened dangers facing undocumented individuals in the United States, citing the current political climate under Trump’s leadership.
He stated, "And if you must suffer any such indignity, please avoid it being in the usa, in the age of Donald Trump."
Describing the treatment of undocumented immigrants in the country, Farotimi used a single but powerful word: "Dehumanizing." The brief but sharp remark underscores concerns raised by various human rights organizations about the U.S. immigration enforcement policies that critics say have grown increasingly aggressive and punitive
