Victor Boniface Announce Retirement from Nigeria National Team

Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 24.

The Bayer Leverkusen striker made the announcement late Friday night via his Instagram page.

“Proud to play for my country and a dream for me also, really enjoyed every moment—the good and the bad. Thanks a lot, thank you all. I don hang boot,” Boniface wrote.

The announcement comes just minutes after Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Russia in a friendly match in Moscow. Boniface started the game and led the Super Eagles’ attack but once again failed to find the back of the net. His replacement, Tolu Arokodare, salvaged a draw for Nigeria with an equalizer in the 71st minute.

Boniface’s struggles in front of goal have recently attracted criticism, and his national team form has been under scrutiny.

He also faces uncertainty over his future at Bayer Leverkusen, especially following the appointment of Erik ten Hag as the club’s new head coach.
