The Deceit of Primary Health Centre. The Owerrinta experience.
Except that this government is very dishonest and wrapped in deceit, they were supposed to cover their face in shame knowing that they have been caught in their own game .
How many of us still remember that this PHC's are those their "Project Ekwueme;. Have you asked why they suddenly have refused to reference that "Project Ekwueme: in their current narrative.
How many of us still remember the features of Project Ekwueme and 100 days completion deadline .They failed as contractors were never paid , but skit makers were paid . Have we forgotten the controversy over the ownership of the 200 PHC's in Abia.
They used to say in my village, if you are swimming beneath the water and your back is showing; call if off. This Government should call off all these stories. We have seen them ; finish . See finish . They are not better than the past, that is, if they are not worst . I pity those that still believing their lies.
The Governor, Dr Alex Otti was in my village Owerrinta, in Isi ala Ngwa South to Commission what used to be an old post office ( NIPOST) built by colonel masters . Yes, colonial masters far back in the early 60's.
As a child, I grew up to see that building as a post office building that served what used to be old Isi ala Ngwa ,this government only changed the roof , tiles added solar panel with water borehole .
Only God knows how much was written off as cost of that project.They are free to write off billions but provide what is needed by the people. Simple.
They lined up my village old women who came out in their numbers to witness the commissioning of a building that has always existed with them years back. Who is deceiving who. They think the villagers don't know they once went to same location to check for their letters.
The only new difference from the past is that they now line up young boys or old women to be placed on the bed pretending to be on admission, while they Commission the Health centre and take pictures, these people who are paid to pretend as sick patients leaves immediately after the Commissionng and the PHCentre goes back to under lock and key status..We are now recruiting small boys and old women in our deceit under "New Abia "
We know how unplanned, with poor designs these old PHC built by OUK, TA Ikpeazu administrations were . It was common among politicians to loiter our space with 3 room building called Primary Health centre. We had expected more from a government that promised a paradigm shift. We never expected them to continue reinforcing the past.
In Enugu , Peter Mba demolished those old structures built by past administrations as they are not fit for purpose and cannot fit into modern architectural design of a modern hospital. They are building 263 brand new PHC's that can serve anybody in society with modern facilities. Am sure even a local government chairman in Abia will not take any of his child to that kiosk they are going round commissioning even with the best staff and modern equipment.
We are reinforcing failures and expecting us to be singing "hallelujah" because some roofs were repainted.
This government has proven to be dishonest with their dealings . Am happy it is gradually sinking. Many who felt we are complaining because we are opposition, can now see what we saw from day one .
A Government that have spent N58b between June 2023 till March 2025 under capital project on Health, cannot boast of a functional General hospital except the General Hospital at Aba done by past administration which they discredited initially, and later shamelessly opened it to the public through the back door .
We bragged about our budgetary provision under Health and Education at 15% 25% respectively just on paper . It has never reflected on what is visible that can impact on the life of an average Abian.
Gov Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, beyond the shenanigans of PHC we are fed here , dedicated proceeds from 13% derivation and did 3 different modern secondary health care facilities in the 3 senatorial zones.
Let's keep playing. The time for stock taking is close and we confront this administration with facts and figures .
Keep thinking all of us are Otondos .
Let's go to church and pray to God to change their hearts especially now that scales are falling off from the eye of some of us .
