Previous administrations deliberately left Benue State in a state of perpetual poverty — Gov Alia

According to DAILY POST, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has attributed the state’s current economic struggles and lack of development to the actions of past administrations, including those led by former governors George Akume and Samuel Ortom.

During his first official media engagement with journalists, Governor Alia detailed the difficult conditions his government inherited upon taking office.

He pointed to widespread financial mismanagement, corruption, and poor leadership as key factors that have stunted Benue's growth over the years.

According to the governor, previous governments left behind a legacy of fiscal instability, including bloated payrolls filled with non-existent workers and crumbling infrastructure across the state.

“Previous administrations deliberately sought to leave Benue State in a state of perpetual poverty. This has been a source of great concern, as the widespread impact of such actions severely hindered the state’s progress,” he said.

He criticized past leadership for policies and actions that, in his view, kept Benue trapped in poverty and significantly held back its development potential.

Governor Alia pledged to reverse this trend by undertaking a thorough reform of the civil service and ensuring that public funds are used for meaningful, people-centered projects.

He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to revive the state’s finances and push forward with initiatives that will bring lasting improvements to the lives of Benue residents.
