Gov. Alex Otti celebrates An Icon Dr Eme Okoro @ 80
Governor Alex Chioma Otti joined the Patriarch of the Okoro Clan, Dr. Eme Okoro as he celebrated his Grace filled 80th birthday on the 16th of February 2025@ the Ochendo International Conference Centre, Umuahia. With over one thousand folks who came to show their Love to a man who has devoted his life to the service of the People. A renowned Soil Scientist/Agronomist, Dr. Okoro has served creditably from the Old Imo State including the Michael Okpara College of Agriculture as the Head of Soil Science & Dean of Food & Nutrition (Umuagwo College of Agriculture, subsequently worked @ the Imo state Accelerated development Area Project (ISADAP) which later metamorphosed to Imo Agricultural development project. At the creation of Abia State, Dr. Okoro became the chief Research Officer, then on to become the Abia State Agricultural Dev. Program Manager where he made a historic mark in making AADP as one of the best Extension & Adaptive Research Outfits in Nigeria🇳🇬. With so many innovations he brought to bare in Abia
Dr. Okoro, after leaving ADP, became the team leader to assist in the developing of cassava as a major crop, under the IITA & NRCR, Umudike. After retiring from ADP, he became a Consultant for the IITA, as Project National Coordinator where he participated in the development of several cassava varieties resistant to cassava mosaic disease (CMD). He then let this project for three years with the active financial support of the federal government led by General Obasanjo.
Dr Eme Okoro is supported and loved by his loved by his lovely wife, Lady Joy Uchechi who worked as a registered nurse for over thirty years. She has had a successful career in the nurse field, leading the labor & delivery unit as a nurse manager at Ben Taub Hospital in the Harris County Hospital System in Houston Texas. They have been blessed with five beautiful daughters all holding their own in their fields of endeavors in United States.





After this consultancy , Dr Eme Okoro remained relevant in society and subsequently was appointed as the Secretary to Abia State Government for two administration ( Sen. TA Orji, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu ). He continued to be recognized and appreciated by many who have crossed his pathway. His passion for agriculture and human development burns with zeal. He has continued his efforts by developing cassava and oil parm farms in his hometown, Ozuitem. Other senior and senior and junior colleagues have honored him. He has also been honored with the designation of FANS ( Fellow of the Agricultural Science of Nigeria) in addition to many chieftaincy titles. He continues to preach agricultural development in Abia and in Nigeria.
